Language and Information Processing Research Lab

Director: Vasile Rus

"The surface to meaning and meaning to surface full cycle of language processing" offered by the Language and Information Processing (LIPs) Research Lab distinguishes us from other research groups in the field, most of which focus on subproblems of human language processing.

We have experience in developing solutions and systems capable of addressing the whole spectrum of issues starting with word detection to deep semantic processing and from discourse planning and micro-planning to lexical generation.  The lab broadly addresses text retrieval aspects as part of our mission.  An arsenal of applications can directly benefit from our basic research, and thus we pursue work in:

  • Information extraction
  • Summarization
  • Question answering
  • Intelligent tutoring systems
  • Machine translation
  • Search engines
