Note Taking Assistance
Note taking assistance is an accommodation that is approved through Disability Resources for Students by the student’s assigned coordinator. Note taking accommodations are approved for students who are unable to take notes in class due to hearing, visual, motor, and cognitive disabilities. Most often this assistance is provided with technology. However, there are certain situations that require a live notetaker. In these situations, we look for a volunteer from the class to provide a copy of their notes to their classmate. DRS will follow the process below to ensure this accommodation is arranged in a timely fashion:
- DRS will use your class roster to reach out to other students in the class in an effort to secure a notetaker at the start of the semester.
- If we do not get any volunteers within the first week, we will ask instructors to assist with finding a volunteer in the class.
- We will ask instructors to provide copies of PowerPoint slides from their lectures.
- If we are unable to find a volunteer notetaker within 2 weeks, we will lend the student a digital recorder, to record lectures so that we can pay a notetaker to write notes using the PowerPoint slides and the digital recording.
