September 12 - November 27, 2016: The National Civil Rights Museum is featuring a special exhibit: "Purchased Lives: The American Slave Trade from 1808 to 1865, an Exhibition from the Historic New Orleans Collection." This exhibit will feature guest lectures by Joshua Rothman of the University of Alabama and Stephanie Jones-Rogers of the University of California-Berkeley, as well as a one-day teachers' workshop. This is a great learning opportunity, and a chance to better under the deeper history that would give rise in May 1866 to the bloody violence we know as the Memphis Massacre.
Registration is required for the lectures and the workshop. For further information, including registration deadlines, please consult the NCRM website.
