Other Therapy Services

Speech and language therapy is available in individual and group settings for persons of any age for whom the above programs would not be appropriate. It is also available if a client's schedule prevents the individual from attending a recommended program. Our primary goal is to provide the best service for the client and his/her family.

Additionally, the Center is involved in the early identification of communication disorders through pre-school and elementary school screenings in the Memphis City and Shelby County area. Public and professional education programs are available as well.

Vocal Health Program for Preschoolers

Children often use their voices to yell on the playground, imitate engine or animal noises, or to sing louder than the other children in their class. Most children are unaware that using their voices in this manner consistently may cause damage that could put them at risk for voice problems in either childhood or adulthood. Thus, Vocal Health Program for Preschoolers has been developed in order to expose preschoolers to the voice, its structure and functions, and healthy versus unhealthy vocal uses. It is intended to be educational, fun, and preventative in nature. This program is offered to local preschools free of charge, and has received a tremendous amount of positive feedback. Topics include the vocal mechanism, vocal parameters, unwanted vocal behaviors, and prevention strategies. It is hoped that, by exposing children to these concepts at an early age, this knowledge will assist them in avoiding vocal problems now and later in life.
