Second year in a row >>
Dr. Robin Poston, director of the Systems Testing Excellence Program (STEP) of the FedEx Institute of Technology at the University of Memphis, and Dr. Mark Gillenson, STEP associate director, have been given an award from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for the second year in a row. This award, given by the DHS Under Secretary for Science and Technology to the STEP team, is a "Team Award as members of the TED Workforce Development Team in the category of Science and Engineering."
For the last three years, the STEP team has conducted one-week training classes for DHS Headquarters personnel on the critically important topic of software testing. Topics have included testing techniques, testing in the agile development environment, testing for security, interoperability testing and more.
STEP was founded 15 years ago as a partnership between the University of Memphis and the FedEx Corporation. Over these years, STEP has trained many hundreds of corporate personnel in Memphis. STEP has also trained U.S. military personnel in the Defense Information Systems Agency's (DISA) Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC) at its three U.S. military bases. STEP has also conducted numerous research projects on software testing, including one recently concluded for the U.S. Air Force, has conducted annual research workshops on software testing, and has taught university courses on the subject.
