Beck elected to APA Board of Scientific Affairs
Will serve through 2024
The American Psychological Association (APA) Council of Representatives has elected Dr. Gayle Beck, Lillian, and Morrie Moss Chair of Excellence and licensed Clinical Psychologist, Department of Psychology at the University of Memphis, to serve on the APA Board of Scientific Affairs (BSA). The BSA is the primary advisory body to the APA Science Directorate. Along with its committees and affiliated groups, BSA is concerned with all aspects of psychology as a science and has far reaching responsibility related to all aspects of psychology.
BSA activities include sponsoring scientific programming at the annual APA convention, overseeing APA awards and honors for scientific contributions, and advising on APA's relationships with other scientific organizations. It also provides guidance to APA government relations staff on issues related to research funding and policies, as well as proposing and refining new APA policies and activities for advancing psychological science.
Members of the Board of Scientific Affairs are selected by the APA Council of Representatives to represent the broad range of areas within the discipline. Voting for these competitive appointments is open to members of the Council of Representatives of the APA, made up by members of each division of the association and individuals who represent each state association. Beck’s term begins Jan 2022 and runs through Dec 2024.
