Instrumentation Professional Development Workshop | November 2
Workshop on federal instrumentation grants
The Division of Research and Innovation in collaboration with Tn Consulting, LLC, is pleased to offer a professional development workshop on November 2 on federal instrumentation grants from the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health. Please see details and links to register for the workshop below:
The NSF Major Research Instrumentation (MRI) Program serves to increase access to multi-user scientific and engineering instrumentation for research and research training in our Nation's institutions of higher education and not-for-profit scientific/engineering research organizations. An MRI award supports the acquisition or development of a multi-user research instrument that is, in general, too costly and/or not appropriate for support through other NSF programs.
The NSF MRI program is a limited submission opportunity (3 submissions allowed per institution: 2 Track 1 proposals and 1 Track 2 proposal). Please see the Research & Innovation newsletter article on the internal call for NSF MRI proposals for additional information. The deadline for submitting information for the internal competition to be considered for submitting a full proposal is October 15. The deadline for full proposals is January 1-19.
The NIH Office of Research Infrastructure Programs (ORIP) S10 Instrumentation Programs support purchases of state-of-the-art commercially available instruments to enhance research of NIH-funded investigators. Instruments that are awarded are typically too expensive to be obtained by an individual investigator with a research project grant. Every instrument awarded by an S10 grant is to be used on a shared basis, which makes the programs cost-efficient and beneficial to thousands of investigators in hundreds of institutions nationwide.
ORIP manages the S10 programs by issuing Funding Opportunity Announcements (FOAs) with one annual receipt date. Active FOAs are:
- Basic Instrumentation Grant Program (BIG) – The BIG Program funds grant awards in the $25,000 to $250,000 range.
Deadline: June 1, 2023 - *This is a limited submission opportunity that only allows one application per institution per submission cycle*
- Shared Instrumentation Grant Program (SIG) – The SIG Program funds grant awards in the $50,000 to $600,000 range.
Deadline: June 1, 2023 - High-End Instrumentation Grant Program (HEI) – The HEI Program funds grant awards in the $600,001 to $2,000,000 range.
Deadline: June 1, 2023
Presentation slides as well as recordings of the workshop session will be made available on the Training page of the Division of Research and Innovation website (https://www.memphis.edu/research/training/).
