International Scholar Presents Research
Fatemi features work from Fatigue and Fracture Research Laboratory funded by the Office of Naval Research
Dr. Ali Fatemi, Ring Companies Professor and Chair of Mechanical Engineering, was invited to give a plenary lecture on fatigue performance and modeling of additive manufactured metals at the 13th International Fatigue Congress in Hiroshima-Japan November 6-10. The work presented was mainly based on the PhD dissertation work of Mr. Matthew Markham, a doctoral student in the Fatigue and Fracture Research Laboratory and funded by the Office of Naval Research. After his plenary lecture, Fatemi was professionally dressed in a traditional Kimono to introduce Japanese culture to the congress participants from all around the world.
Fatemi is an internationally recognized scholar in fatigue and fracture of engineering materials and structures. He has co-authored a popular textbook on Metal Fatigue in Engineering published by Wiley and taught at many universities around the world. The Fatemi-Socie fatigue model is the most commonly used multiaxial fatigue theory used for applications in fatigue design by many industries. He also has the distinction of having published the most cited papers in the 40+ years histories of the two scientific journals in fatigue, International Journal of Fatigue published by Elsevier, and Fatigue and Fracture of Engineering Materials and Structures published by Wiley.
