Dr. Richard Irwin, executive dean of UofM Global in the College of Professional and Liberal Studies Center for Regional Economic Enrichment, was awarded $25,000,000 from the Tennessee Department of Human Services with the US Department of Health and Human Services for his project “Growing Relational and Occupational Wealth in West Tennessee Households.”
Dr. Ranganathan Gopalakrishnan, associate professor and graduate program coordinator in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, was awarded $725,689 from the US Army Research Office for his project “Theoretical and experimental investigation of grain charging, coagulation and heating in dense non-thermal dusty plasmas for large scale materials synthesis.”
Dr. Thomas Sutter, professor and W. Harry Feinstone Chair of Excellence in the Department of Molecular Biology, was awarded $252,560 from the University of Pennsylvania with the National Institutes of Health for his project “Microbial Regulation of the keratinocyte AHR.”
Dr. Todd Zoblotsky, research professor in the Center for Research in Educational Policy, was awarded $149,997 from the Smithsonian Institution with the US Department of Education for his project “Smithsonian Science for the Classroom: Improving Student Achievement Across State Borders and State Standards.”
Dr. Richard Bloomer, dean and professor in the College of Health Sciences, was awarded $117,079 from Liquid IV for his project “A Randomized, Placebo Controlled, Semi-Blind, Crossover Study to Evaluate the Effects of Two Novel Hydration Beverage Formulas on Rehydration in Healthy Adults.”
Dr. James Adelman, assistant professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, was awarded $114,708 from Virginia Tech with the National Institutes of Health for his project “Ecological and evolutionary causes and consequences of host heterogeneity induced by prior exposure.”
Dr. Sabyasachee Mishra, professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, was awarded $99,999 from the Tennessee Department of Transportation for his project “Informed Safety, Mobility, and Driver Comfort Enhancement Practices for Work Zones: Learnings from High-Fidelity Data,” and $4,999 from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis with Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing of North America, Inc for his project “E-scooter crash information from TITAN.”
Dr. Latrice Pichon, associate professor in the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences, was awarded $94,673 from Meharry Medical College with the Center For Disease Control for her project “Implementation of Rapid HIV Testing and Linkage to HIV Treatment or Prevention Among Vulnerable Populations in Tennessee.”
Dr. Patrick Murphy, assistant professor of Clinical Mental Health in the Department of Counseling, Educational Psychology and Research, was awarded $91,208 from Tennessee Higher Educ Commission for his project “Hear Our Stories: Understanding Successful Academic Pathways for Student Veterans.”
Dr. Alexander Headley, assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, was awarded $87,079 from Sandia National Laboratories with the US Department of Energy for his project “Vent Gas Failure Propagation in Grid-Scale Battery Racks.”
Dr. Charles Santo, associate professor and department chair in the Department of City and Regional Planning, was awarded $52,580 from Iowa State University with the National Science Foundation for his project “DISES-RCN: Developing new strategies for urban-rural systems to overcome interconnected social, environmental, and technological challenges.”
Dr. Jennifer Turchi, assistant professor in the School of Public Health, was awarded $41,725 from First 8 Memphis LLC for her project “Seeding Success Pre-K Outcomes-Based Financing Project.”
Dr. Ana Doblas, assistant professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, was awarded $39,825 from the US Embassy in Spain with the US Department of State for her project “Enhancing career opportunities in STEM for Spanish/Andorran undergraduate students in the United States.”
Dr. Jeffery Marchetta, professor and undergraduate coordinator for the Department of Mechanical Engineering, was awarded $36,610 from Vanderbilt University with the National Aeronautics and Space Admin for his project “University of Memphis Space Grant Program.”
Dr. Daniel Collier, assistant professor in the Department of Leadership, was awarded $25,000 from Shared Ascent Fund for his project “Using an Explanatory Sequential Mixed Methods Design to Explore Connections between PSLF/TEPSLF Forgiveness and Subjective Well-Being.”
Dr. John Sabatini, professor in the Department of Institute for Intelligent Systems, was awarded $24,122 from the University of Massachusetts/Amherst with the US Department of Education for his project “Adult Skill Assessment Program: Actionable Assessments for Adult Learners.”
Dr. Susan Elswick, professor in the Department of Social Work, was awarded $17,400 from the United Way of Greater Memphis with the State of Tennessee for her project “ACES Building Stronger Brains Tennessee.”
Dr. Erin Nelson, associate professor in the Department of Public Health and Nonprofit Administration, was awarded $12,211 from Momentum Non-Profit Partners aka Alliance for Nonprofit Excellence for her project “State of Nonprofit Sector Report.”
Dr. Douglas Powell, BMEC Program coordinator and associate professor in the College of Health Sciences, was awarded $3,000 from Tekscan Inc for his project “Detection of Key Gait Events in Individuals with Parkinson's Disease using a Plantar Pressure Mat.”
