UofM’s Bloomer researches the health and safety claims of non-FDA-regulated dietary supplements and their effectiveness
Dietary supplements are used by close to 60% of Americans and represent a multi-billion dollar per year industry. Although regulated by the FDA and FTC, many dietary supplements are simply ineffective and fail to deliver the results which are so aggressively advertised. While many supplements may not be worth using, others are highly effective and can enhance your health and/or performance. In fact, some should be staples in every home. Dr. Rick Bloomer and colleagues in the College of Health Sciences conduct several studies each year on dietary ingredients and supplements, within the Center for Nutraceutical and Dietary Supplement Research.
