Dr. Dipankar Dasgupta, Hill Professor in the Department of Cybersecurity and Director in the Center for Information Assurance, was awarded $991,209.80 from the National Security Agency for his project “Cybersecurity education for Critical Infrastructure protection (in Community Development) through Regional Coalition.”
Dr. Bonny Banerjee, dual appointed assistant professor in the research-intensive Institute for Intelligent Systems and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, was awarded $252,000 from Modus Operandi, Inc. with the U.S. Department of Defense for his project “Wearable Technologies for Physiological Monitoring Open Topic.”
Dr. Shawn Pollard, assistant professor in the Department of Physics and Material Science, was awarded $181,745 from the National Science Foundation for his project “ERI: Compositionally modulated ferrimagnets for spin-orbitronic devices.”
Dr. Richard Bloomer, dean and professor in the College of Health Sciences, was awarded $168,123 from Liquid IV for his project “Beverage Hydration Index: Assessment of Four Rehydration Solutions.”
Dr. Daniel Schaffzin, director of Experiential Learning and associate professor of Law in the Cecil C. Humphrey’s School of Law, was awarded $167,223.60 from the City of Memphis for his project “City of Memphis Neighborhood Preservation Clinic.”
Dr. Wesley James, Pat E. Burlison Professor in the Department of Sociology, was awarded $159,877 from the Delta Health Alliance with the National Institutes of Health for his project “The Partnership to Optimize Women's Equity in Reproductive health (POWER).”
Dr. Todd Zoblotsky, research director in the Center for Research in Educational Policy, was awarded $149,997 from the Smithsonian Institution with the US Department of Education for his project “Smithsonian Science for the Classroom: Improving Student Achievement Across State Borders and State Standards.”
Dr. Cynthia Muzzi, associate professor in the Center for Research in Educational Policy, was awarded $99,658 from the Virginia Department of Education with the US Department of Education for her project “Virginia 21st CCLC 2023.”
Dr. Latrice Pichon, professor in the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences, was awarded $91,466 from the Vanderbilt University Medical Center with the Center for Disease Control for her project “Implementation of Rapid HIV Testing and Linkage to HIV Treatment or Prevention Among Vulnerable Populations in Tennessee.”
Dr. Amir Hadadzadeh, assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, was awarded $80,000 from AP&C Advanced Powders & Coatings, Incorporated for his project “Additive Manufacturing of Titanium Alloys.”
Dr. Matthew Smeltzer, associate professor in the Division of Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Environmental Health, was awarded $78,639 from the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer for his project “MT Survey” and $22,422 from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center with the National Institutes of Health for his project “Predicting Progression of Chronic Kidney Disease in Sickle Cell Anemia Using Machine Learning Models (PREMIER).”
Dr. Francisco Muller Sanchez, assistant professor in the Department of Physics and Materials Science, was awarded $78,564 from the National Aeronautics and Space Admin for his project “GA-MER: Citizen science-based classification of galaxy mergers using the two-dimensional stellar kinematics of nearby galaxies observed with MaNGA.”
Dr. Derek Myers, Chief of Police in the Department of Police Services, was awarded $77,034 from the State of Tennessee, Office of Criminal Justice Programs for his project “VSSG Grant.”
Dr. Carolyn Kaldon, research associate professor in the Center for Research in Educational Policy, was awarded $63,027 from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center with the Health Resources and Services Administration for her project “Reimagining Education for Advanced Careers in Healthcare (REACH).”
Dr. Huigang Liang, professor, Ph.D. Coordinator, and FedEx Chair of Excellence in Department of Management Information Systems, was awarded $60,192 from The University of Texas at Austin with the National Institutes of Health for his project “Talking Circle for Native American Youth Living Well (A Yo Li).”
Courtnee Melton-Fant, assistant professor in the Division of Health Systems Management and Policy, was awarded $60,000 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison for her project “ESP.”
Dr. Stephen Horton, research scientist in the Center for Earthquake Research and Information, was awarded $54,000 from the Arkansas Geological Survey for his project “Operation and Maintenance of the Arkansas Seismic Network.”
Dr. Minhae Cho, assistant professor in the Department of Social Work, was awarded $50,000 from the City of Memphis Police Department with the State of Tennessee for her project “Evaluation of VCIF project.”
Dr. Jeffrey Marchetta, professor and Undergraduate Coordinator in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, was awarded $50,000 from the Tennessee Technological University with the US Department of Energy for his project “TN 3-Star Industrial Assessment Center.”
Dr. Deepak Venugopal, associate professor and Graduate Coordinator in the Department of Computer Science, was awarded $50,000 from The Learning Academy LLC for his project “ASTRA: An AI-based tool to analyze math-learning strategies in big-data.”
Dr. Rory Pfund, research assistant professor in the Department of Psychology, was awarded $45,881 from the International Center for Responsible Gaming for his project “A Meta-Analytic Research Domain of Psychological Treatments for Gambling Harm.”
Dr. Stephen Diko, assistant professor in the Department of City and Regional Planning, was awarded $45,373 from the Memphis and Shelby County Planning And Development with the US Environmental Protection Agency for his project “Climate Pollution Reduction Grant.”
Sandra Guntharp, clinical assistant faculty in Child Development and Family Studies, was awarded $36,000 from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center with The Urban Child Institute for her project “All Kids Academy.”
Dr. Alexander Headley, assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, was awarded $32,476 from the Tennessee Technological University with the US Department of Energy for his project “Second Life Battery Degradation Monitoring and Testing for Rural EV Infrastructure.”
Dr. Thomas Goebel, assistant professor in the Center for Earthquake Research and Information, was awarded $19,540 from the National Science Foundation for his project “CAREER: From slow to fast, micro to macro, single events to cascades: A multi-scale study of seismic event triggering in lab and nature.”
Dr. Meredith Ray, associate professor in the Division of Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Environmental Health and Program Coordinator for Biostatistics, was awarded $12,000 from the Research Foundation of CUNY with the National Institutes of Health for her project “Optimizing HIV prevention for highly vulnerable methamphetamine-using sexual minority men.”
Dr. Firouzeh Sabri, professor and chair in the Department of Physics and Material Science, was awarded $12,000 from the National Science Foundation for her project “REU Site: Multidisciplinary Physics Research at the University of Memphis.”
Dr. Michael Schmidt, associate professor in the Department of Art, was awarded $7,973 from Florida International University with the National Institutes of Health for his project “Developing and testing health warning labels on the ENDS device.”
Dr. Joel Bumgardner, professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, was awarded $3,716 from Hera Health Solutions Inc for his project “In vivo evaluation of resorbable, implantable hormonal contraceptive.”
Dr. Emerson Bower, associate professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, was awarded $3,250 from Graduate Women in Science for his project “Parental care of host and parasitic young: an experimental test.”
Dr. Elizabeth Gillespie, assistant professor in the Department of Public and Nonprofit Administration, was awarded $1,695 from Advocates for Immigrant Rights for her project “Fundraising Contract.”
