Initialize Your "My Memphis" Student Account

After you have been accepted at the University of Memphis (UofM) as a J-1 exchange student (non-degree seeking), you first receive an email from the UofM study abroad office (tigersabroad@memphis.edu) notifying your application status. You will later be notified of your admission status by standard mail and email by the UofM admissions office.

Your notification will include a 20-digit student account activation code. You will need that code to initialize your My Memphis student account and grant access to your student email account. Instructions are provided in the admission packet. To maintain the best contact with the University, we recommend you activate your account as soon as possible. That address is where "official" University communication will be sent. You will also search and register for classes on your myMemphis.

For information on how to register for classes please visit Study Abroad How to Register for Classes.

Intensive English for Internationals (IEI)

The Intensive English for Internationals (IEI) program, through the Center for International Programs and Services at the University of Memphis, offers comprehensive study of the English language to students from around the world. J-1 (exchange) students who do not meet the minimum TOEFL score may spend their first semester in the IEI program. Students who successfully complete the IEI program can then take regular courses the second semester.
