Levels of Curricular Approval

Below are the Approval Processes for both Undergraduate and Graduate level courses based on the type of proposals submitted. 

Regular Proposals:

  1. Originator 
  2. Department Chair
  3. College/School Review
  4. College/School Committee
  5. University Review
  6. University Committee
  7. Registrar Office
  8. UM Degree

 

Low-Impact Proposals:

  1. Originator 
  2. Department Chair
  3. College/School Dean
  4. University Review
  5. Registrar Office
  6. UM Degree

 

Special Topic Proposals:

  1. Originator 
  2. Department Chair
  3. College/School Dean
  4. University Review
  5. Registrar Office

 

 

NOTE: For substantive program revisions and new program proposals, the approval process continues as follows:

  • Provost
  • President
  • Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC)
    • and as appropriate, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) for substantive changes
