Beta Alpha Psi was founded in 1919. There are now 300+ chapters on college campuses with over 300,000 members initiated since Beta Alpha Psi's formation.

Eligibility
Accounting, Finance and MIS students with an overall GPA of 3.0+ who have received
a B or higher in specific coursework relevant to their major.
MILE and CPCD participants are welcome
Time Commitment
There are two semesters of candidacy after which eligible students are sworn into the National Beta Alpha Psi. To keep a good standing, all candidates and active members attend a minimum of six professional meetings and complete eight hours of service per semester.
How to Join
Fill out an application linked under Candidates or Associates below. Pay non-refundable candidate dues: 1st Semester of Candidacy ($125) 2nd Semester of Candidacy ($100). Once successfully sworn in, no further dues are required.
Candidates
To successfully complete your 1st and 2nd semester candidacy, you must:
- Be an undergraduate or graduate student with a major in:
- Accounting
- Finance
- Management Information Systems (MIS)
- Either have completed or currently be enrolled in Intermediate Accounting
- Receive at least a B in the following key course separated by major: *
- Accounting: Intermediate I
- Finance: Investments
- MIS: Database/Information Management
- Attend at least 6 PROFESSIONAL BAP MEETINGS.
- Our semi-annual Meet the Firms Event and End of Semester Banquet both count towards this requirement.

- Note: Attendance at the end of semester banquet is mandatory.
- Complete at the minimum 8 hours of service
- Pay your dues during your 1st semester ($125) and 2nd semester ($100) to the treasurer.
- Maintain an overall GPA of 3.0+
*Graduate students are not required to meet the course work requirements
Associates
- Freshman, Sophomore and Graduate students who are (a) ineligible for candidacy or (b) will
graduate before completing candidacy can still join Beta Alpha Psi as an Associate.
- Associates are not required to complete the meeting or service requirements but are
encouraged to participate as much as possible!
- Associates’ dues are $50 and must be paid every semester until the student either (a) is eligible for candidacy or (b) reaches junior status in their academic degree program.

Service Hours
- Candidates must complete at least 8 hours of service – 2 of those hours must be tutoring.
- Tutoring hours can be completed:
- (a) by volunteering at the campus Business Learning Center (BLC) in the Fogelman College of Business & Economics (FCBE) room 256 or
- (b) independently with supporting documentation detailing the tutoring activities that is signed by the tutee.
- The time slots for tutoring will be sent to our BAP email list, so make sure you are on that list!
- BAP Candidates and Member can count up to five hours (250 minutes) per semester of professional activities, and up to five hours (250 minutes) per semester of service activities towards their total hours.
Eligible non-BAP hours
Any professional event can count towards these additional hours, which include but are not limited to:
- Events held by the Center for Professional Career Development (CPCD)
- Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants (TSCPA) meetings
- Greek Events (Sorority or Fraternity)
- Memphis Institute of Leadership Education (MILE) meetings
- Other student organization meetings (such as AMIS, SHRM, FWL etc.)
- CPE Events
- Training for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)
- Other professional organization meetings (such as NABA, AICPA, etc.)
- Lunch & Learns
- Job shadowing
*Our chapter strives to meet a certain total hour requirement, so reporting these additional hours helps us reach that goal! To thank you for your extra work, we will award gift certificates in the amounts of $25, $50, and $100 to our candidates and members that surpass 30 total hours.
