Web Design Generic Fonts

W3C defines the following generic-family fonts in CSS1 specification: (W3C Cascading Style Sheets, Level 1 - 5.2.2). Also note: "Style sheet designers are encouraged to offer a generic font family as a last alternative."

  • 'serif' (e.g. Times)
  • 'sans-serif' (e.g. Helvetica)
  • 'cursive' (e.g. Zapf-Chancery)
  • 'Fantasy' (e.g. Western)
  • 'Monospaced' (e.g. Courier)
