Urban Anthropology

Urban Anthropology focuses on urbanization, poverty, identity, and space with a contextual emphasis on understanding how neoliberal policies are changing urban spaces and social relations between people in these areas. 

Special note: First year graduate students with an interest in Urban Anthropology are encouraged to apply for the Tim Bolding Scholarship in Anthropology. The application deadline for the Bolding Scholarship is July 1, 2019.

Urban Anthropology in Memphis

Students who attend our program will have ample opportunity to get involved in local community development projects and will learn best practices for applying anthropology for community building organizations.
