FCBE faculty awards at annual Fall faculty and staff meeting

Fogelman College recently held the Fall faculty and staff meeting in preparation for the new school year. During the meeting, new faculty were introduced, promotions were announced, and awards were presented. The awards presented included the College Outstanding Paper Awards, the FCBE Research Mentoring Excellence Awards, and the Ph.D. Student Excellence in Teaching Awards.

The winners of the College Outstanding Paper Awards are as follows:

Dr. Joseph Zhang, assistant professor of Accountancy, won first place in the empirical category for his paper entitled, "Firms' Earnings Smoothing, Corporate Social Responsibility, and Valuation," which was published in the Journal of Corporate Finance.

Second place was awarded to Dr. Robin Poston, interim chair of the Department of Business Information & Technology, for her co-authored paper entitled, "The Effect of Online Social Value on Satisfaction and Continued Use of Social Media," which was published in the European Journal of Information Systems.

Winners of the College Outstanding Paper Awards in the Conceptual/Theoretical Category are as follows:

Dr. Mehdi Amini, George Johnson Professor of Marketing and Supply Chain Management, and Dr. Emin Babakus, professor of Marketing and Supply Chain Management, won first place for their paper entitled, "Success Factors in Product Seeding: The Role of Homophily," which was published in the Journal of Retailing.

Second Place was awarded to Dr. Bill Smith, chair of the Department of Economics, for his co-authored paper entitled, "Changes in Risk and Strategic Interaction," which was published in the Journal of Mathematical Economics.

The winners of the FCBE Research Mentoring Excellence Awards are as follows:

Dr. Mark Sunderman, Morris Fogelman Real Estate Chair of Excellence and professor of Finance, for his paper entitled, "REITs and Market Microstructure: A Comprehensive Analysis of Market Quality," which was published in the Journal of Real Estate Research. Dr. Sunderman co-authored this paper with two former finance Ph.D. students, Dr. Pawan Jain and K. Janean Westby-Gibson.

Dr. Albert A. Okunade, professor of Economics, won for his paper entitled "Determinants of U.S. Prescription Drug Utilization Using County Level Data," which was published in Health Economics. The paper was co-authored with Dr. Thierry Nianogo, a recent FCBE Economics doctoral graduate and current research economist at the United Nations, Dr. Weiwei Chen, former FCBE Ph.D. student, and Demba Fofana, current FCBE Ph.D. student.

Mr. Christian Calderon, fifth year doctoral student in Management, received the first place Ph.D. Student Excellence in Teaching Award.

Mr. Vivek Sharma received the second place award for Ph.D. Student Excellence in Teaching Award.
