Before joining Michael Best, John was an associate at a Washington-D.C. IP boutique in the firm’s Internet, Software, and Electrical-Mechanical practice. Prior to joining the private practice and while working at the USPTO, John also served as a Judicial Intern for the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC). Earlier in his career, John gained valuable industry experience working in systems administration. John focuses on securing high-quality patent protection for software, computer, and digital technologies including innovations related to artificial intelligence, machine learning, augmented reality, virtual reality, cloud computing, Internet of Things (IoT), authentication, database management, object detection, activity-tracking, signal processing, vehicle motor control, navigational interfaces, medical devices, blockchain, electronic gaming, and targeted advertising, among others. In addition to patent preparation and prosecution, John also provides clients with patent portfolio counseling.
