Suits For Success
Today's competitive workplace requires high levels of professional development to meet the increasingly stringent requirements of employers, and professional attire is a critical component. USA Today recently reported that 50% of surveyed employers identified that young college graduates often lose out on potential job opportunities because they mistakenly wear inappropriate attire to interviews. However, acquiring the appropriate professional clothing items necessary for a successful job search can be a real challenge for students, given the economic hardships many face while pursuing a degree.
Fogelman College of Business and Economics is working to help solve this student challenge by providing professional wardrobe awards to deserving students. Through the generous support of FCBE alumni and friends, the "Suits for Success" program (flyer) helps deserving and qualified students by providing $250 in reimbursements toward the purchase of clothing items essential to a successful job search.
The fund is competitive for FCBE students who have earned a Complete Professional Program Certificate. Candidates are required to submit a comprehensive application outlining their academic accomplishments and demonstrating financial need, along with a letter of recommendation from a faculty member. A committee of FCBE faculty and staff reviews all applications, and awards are based on fund availability.
Students who receive the award must use the $250 to purchase a two-piece suit, shirt, and appropriate shoes from a designated retailer. All selected wardrobe essentials must meet professional standards specified by the Avron B. Fogelman Professional Development Center.
