Dual Degree Programs

A dual degree allows you to complete two degrees in less time that it takes to pursue both degrees independently. We offer 3 Dual Degree programs:

  1. JD / MBA
  2. PharmD / MBA
  3. MHA / MBA

 

JD/MBA

The JD/MBA isUofM Law logo a 36-credit hour dual degree designed for students who are currently enrolled in the JD program at the University of Memphis, Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law and are interested in modern law and management.

Owning a law firm, large, small or solo, can be overwhelming when it comes to business operations, accounts receivable/payable, employee management, etc. By concurrently completing a Master's in Business Administration, you can acquire that knowledge and be dually prepared when you graduate from Law School.

Eligibility

Law students must be admitted into the MBA program and begin MBA coursework towards the MBA program before starting the third year of coursework for the Law School.

MBA Classes

MBA classes may be taken on campus or online. On-campus classes are offered at the Fogelman College of Business & Economics. [ map | campus map ]

Please note:

  • Only on-campus MBA classes will be counted towards the JD degree.
  • All Core MBA classes except for BA 7501 and BA 7503 can be counted towards the JD degree. Click here to view a list of core MBA courses.

PharmD/MBA

The PharmD/MBA is UTHSC logoa 36-credit hour dual degree designed for students who are currently enrolled in the PharmD program at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) and are interested in acquiring business education.

Having a Master's in Business Administration prepares you for the business aspects of your career, like Management, Accounting, Finance, Information Technology, etc. Whether you work for a company or venture on your own, a solid foundation in understanding financial numbers, business formation, and employee management can position you competitively.

Eligibility

Students who wish to complete the dual PharmD/MBA degree should apply to the MBA program after completing their 1st year of Pharmacy school at UTHSC. Students are required to have an undergraduate degree and are expected to work towards both degrees concurrently. This means that students will take their last Pharmacy class(es) and MBA class(es) at the same time to graduate from both degrees.

MBA Classes

Classes are offered online or at the main University of Memphis campus at the Fogelman College of Business & Economics. [ map | campus map ]

Students must complete the following courses:

  • All Core MBA Courses. To view a list of core MBA courses, click here.
  • 2 Pharmacy classes count as MBA Elective courses: 
    • PHCY 2112 Health Systems, Delivery, and Economics
    • PHCY 2212 Healthcare Leadership, Innovation, and Management

Please submit an official UTHSC transcript to your MBA advisor upon completion of the Pharmacy courses.

MHA/MBA

The University of Memphis School of Public Health and the Fogelman College of Business & Economics now offer a dual degree program that provides an educational experience in both healthcare management and general business knowledge and skills.

Earning a dual degree in Business Administration and Health Administration makes you more competitive for jobs and post-graduate fellowships in the field of health administration. 

This program can be completed in a full-time schedule of 24 months or in a part-time schedule for more flexibility. You may view a sample full-time schedule here

Eligibility

Students who wish to complete the dual MHA/MBA degree should apply and be accepted into the MBA program and to the MHA program. All applicants must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.

Benefits

Students will be able to count coursework from each program towards both degrees. In total, students will take 71 credit hours of coursework. You can find more details about coursework on the MHA/MBA catalog page.

MBA Classes

Some courses must be taken in order, but others may be changed based on availability. Your academic advisor in the MHA and MBA programs will help you schedule all degree requirements.
