Dr. Adam Alexander, an alumnus of the SBS doctoral program, is an Assistant Professor
at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. A health disparities researcher specializing in tobacco research, his work focuses
on understanding and eliminating tobacco-related health disparities among African
Americans and socioeconomically disadvantaged populations. He is currently working
with community organizations to develop interventions that promote smoking cessation
among African Americans and socioeconomically disadvantaged populations. He earned
a doctorate in social and behavioral sciences and a master’s in psychology both from
the University of Memphis
October 2020: Orpita Nilormee, MPH (2016) serves as Public Health Strategist for Brown County, Wisconsin, leading efforts to
assess, develop, and coordinate plans and systems to support public health initiatives.
Her responsibilities include developing and sustaining community engagement projects
to address emerging and existing public health priorities, analyzing public health
data, and translating findings to a variety of audiences, including in depth and meaningful
analysis of health disparities. Before joining Brown County, Ms. Nilormee served as
an AmeriCorps VISTA (2019-20 VISTA team) with Achieve Brown County. Recently, Governor
Tony Evers presented her program with an award - the 2020 VISTA Program of the Year!Alumni Spotlight
 Jayaprakash Kumar, PhD (2019) - University of Tennessee Health Science Center Postdoctoral
Fellow Dr. Jayaprakash Kumar (Jay) has accepted a postdoctoral fellow position at the University
of Tennessee Health Science Center, Memphis. He will work under the supervision of
Dr Karen Johnson, an internationally acclaimed researcher and the chair of the department
of Preventive Medicine. Jay plans to apply principles of social and behavioral sciences
to investigate and prevent Opioid use disorder among dental patients. |
| Adam Alexander, PhD (2018) - Oklahoma Tobacco Research Center Postdoctoral Fellow Adam Alexander completed his PhD in Social and Behavioral Sciences and is now a postdoctoral research fellow at the Oklahoma Tobacco Research Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. His research focuses on identifying factors that inhibit smoking abstinence among African Americans and socioeconomically disadvantaged populations. Adam is also exploring childhood adversity and the effects it has on adolescent and adult physical and mental health. |
| Seyi Isehunwa, PhD candidate (2018) - Harvard Research Fellow Seyi Isehunwa, PhD candidate (2018) Oluwaseyi (Seyi) Oluwakemi Isehunwa, PhD Candidate in Health Systems and Policy in the School of Public Health, has received an offer of a post-doctoral fellowship from Harvard. She defends her doctoral dissertation on June 22nd and will begin her postdoctoral Research Fellow position at Harvard/ MGH Center for Genomics, Vulnerable Populations, and Health Disparities in August. | Rachel Barenie, JD/MPH (2018) - Harvard Medical School Fellow Rachel Barenie has been offered an appointment at Harvard Medical School as a fellow in the Program on Regulation, Therapeutics, and Law. | Jessica Bell, MPH (2018) - ASPPH/CDC Public Health Fellow, National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health/Respiratory Health Division Jessica Bell will be a fellow in the ASPPH/CDC Public Health Fellowship Program, working at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)/Respiratory Health Division in Morgantown, WV. She will be on the team studying trends in occupational respiratory disease mortality among working adults in the United States. |
| Brittany Julius, MPH (2018) - Health Promotion Coordinator, Association of Washington Cities "I have accepted a full-time position at the Association of Washington Cities in Olympia, Washington. As a Health Promotion Coordinator, I am tasked with developing, promoting, implementing, and evaluating the health promotion programs of the Association of Washington Cities' Employee Benefit Trust, a local government benefit pool comprised of more than 281 member cities and towns, and other local governments." |
| Brittney Becton, MPH (2018) Youth Tobacco Prevention Coordinator Brittney Becton, MPH (2018) has accepted a position with the Shelby County Health Department as the Youth Tobacco Prevention Coordinator. In this role, she will be responsible for educating elementary, middle, and high school students about the harmful effects of smoking as well as encouraging the youth not to use tobacco products. |
