Internship Overview
An undergraduate internship with Student Health and Counseling Services will assist in developing your skills for employment upon graduation or preparing you for entry to graduate level programs. Undergraduate internship responsibilities at Student Health and Counseling Services can involve coordinating outreach events on mental health and other topics, implementing our stress management program in the relaxation zone, and gaining experience in research and data collection about student health and wellness.
Eligibility
Candidates must be undergraduate students enrolled in social work, psychology, or other applied sciences fields. Students must commit to at least 6 hours per week to the internship program.
Application Process
All applications for an internship need to be submitted prior to interviewing. Preferences are given to applicants who submit a completed application on November 1st for the following spring semester internship and April 1st for the summer or following fall semester internship.

Undergraduate Federal Work-Study Positions
Undergraduate Federal Work-Study (FWS) positions offer students the opportunity to gain similar hands-on experience within Student Health and Counseling Services while earning wages through the federal work-study program. These roles allow students to develop transferable skills, explore career interests in mental health and wellness, and contribute meaningfully to campus outreach and prevention efforts.
Work-study students may support outreach initiatives, assist with programming in the Relaxation Zone, help with clerical or project-based tasks, and participate in basic data or program support activities. While the responsibilities may overlap with those of undergraduate interns, work-study roles place additional emphasis on consistent operational support and professional workplace skill-building.
Eligibility & Important Notes
- Students must be eligible for Federal Work-Study through financial aid
- Must be able to commit to at least 10 hours per week during operating hours Monday to Thursday 8:30-6:30 and Friday 8:30-4:30
- Enrollment status and funding availability are determined by the Office of Financial Aid
- Students who are unsure of their eligibility are encouraged to contact the University of Memphis Financial Aid Office directly
