Tuition Discounts

Dependent children, twenty-three (23) years of age or younger, classified as an Undergraduate student, of Tennessee certified public school teachers may be eligible for a discount of their Undergraduate maintenance fees (tuition) at The University of Memphis. Students eligible for the discount must submit a new certified discount form each semester to the University & Student Business Services Office prior to the appropriate fee payment deadline to avoid deletion of classes. The employment certification on the form should not be any earlier than July 1 for Fall, December 1 for Spring, and April 15 for Summer. Discount forms may not be processed retroactively.

Forms are available from the employee's Human Resources department. Fee discount rules and forms are also available on the Tennessee Higher Education Commission's Web site.

Students eligible for the discount must submit a new certified discount form each semester to the University & Student Business Services Office prior to the appropriate fee payment deadline to avoid deletion of classes. The employment certification on the form should not be any earlier that July 1 for Fall, December 1 for Spring and April 15 for Summer. Discount forms may not be processed retroactively. Tuition Waivers

Employees of the State of Tennessee may be eligible to enroll for *one (1) undergraduate or graduate course per semester without payment of tuition, program service fees, TN eCampus (formerly RODP) program fees and TN eCampus (formerly RODP) online fees. However, the student remains responsible for payment of all other course fees, material fees, U of M online fees etc. and the submission of a new certified fee waiver form each semester to the University & Student Business Services Office by the appropriate fee payment deadline to avoid deletion of classes. The employment certification on the form should not be any earlier that July 1 for Fall, December 1 for Spring and April 15 for Summer.

Enrollment under this program is on a space-available basis only. Participants may not register before the specific deadline for each semester. See the University & Student Business Services Office Calendar for the official first day to register under this program. Participants who register during Late Registration WILL BE ASSESSED a $100 late registration fee not covered by the fee waiver program.

NOTE: Enrollment in one course only for each Fall and Spring. Enrollment in two courses for the Summer as long as the courses do not overlap between parts-of-term for the Summer.

Summer Example:

  • The fee waiver will cover enrollment in one course for the 1st part-of-term and one course for 2nd part-of-term (parts-of-term do not overlap).
  • The fee waiver will only cover enrollment in one course if enrolled in full term (full term overlaps all other Summer parts-of-term).

Tuition Assistance & Discount Form Submission

State of Tennessee School Teachers are NOT eligible for this fee waiver.

Employees of the University of Memphis, Public State of TN Colleges and Universities or the University of Tennessee system may be eligible to enroll for one credit course, undergraduate or graduate per term, for a maximum of four credit hours per course and a maximum of four terms per academic year. These employees may use one waiver in each of the Fall and Spring terms and up to two waivers in the summer, in separate parts of the summer term. The waiver applies to tuition, university services fees, online course fees and TN eCampus (formerly RODP) fees. The student remains responsible for payment of all other fees, and the submission of the certified fee waiver form by the appropriate fee payment deadline each semester to avoid deletion of classes. The employment certification on the form should not be any earlier than July 1 for Fall, December 1 for Spring and April 15 for Summer.

All UT Systems or other Public State of TN Colleges and Universities should contact your Human Resources Department.

Age Sixty (60) – Audit Only

Tennessee residents who will become age sixty (60) during the academic semester may AUDIT courses without paying tuition charges. These charges may include the following: maintenance fees, program services fees, and special course fees for Business, Fine Art, Engineering, Law or Nursing Programs. Students enrolled in 12 or more hours will be responsible for the mandatory Tiger Eat$.

Age Sixty-five (65) – Credit Course(s)

Tennessee residents who will become age sixty-five (65) during the academic semester may enroll in courses for CREDIT at the cost of one-half the normal per credit hour fee, not to exceed $70 per semester. These charges include maintenance fees and program services fees. Fees not included in this tuition reduction include, but are not limited to, Fine Art course fees, Business Course fees, Engineering course fees, UM online program fees, TN TN eCampus (formerly RODP) online program fees, Tiger Eat$, and materials fees for courses which require an additional fee.

In order to participate AFTER COURSE SELECTION, participants must submit the Senior Credit Request Discount Form to the USBS office prior to the appropriate fee payment deadline to avoid deletion of classes.

Tuition Assistance & Discount Form Submission

Students who adjust their class schedule after the tuition reduction has been applied to their account must re-submit the form to ensure proper credit is applied and to avoid a $200 late payment fee.

To qualify for the "tuition reduction" in this program, participants must annually complete an application available at Disability Resources for Students https://www.memphis.edu/drs/ (WT 110) and must not be sponsored by a Vocational Rehabilitation program.

Totally and Permanently Disabled – Audit Only

Tennessee residents who are totally and permanently disabled, and who are incapacitated from working at an income producing occupation may AUDIT courses without paying tuition charges. These charges may include the following: maintenance fees, program services fees, and special course fees for Business, Fine Art, Engineering, Law or Nursing Programs. Students enrolled in 12 or more hours will be responsible for the mandatory Tiger Eat$.

Totally and Permanently Disabled – Credit Course(s)

University Tuition Assistance

Scholarship Office applies the tuition assistance as scholarships and are processed per the approved and accepted Graduate Assistant eContract.

Scholarship can only be applied to a student's account after the eContract is fully approved and accepted by the student.

Students should expect to see an adjustment to their account within 2-3 business days after they accept their GA eContract. For questions regarding their contract, they should contact the hiring department who originated the contract.

Departments who wish to pay tuition, housing, late fees, etc must complete the departmental tuition assistance form.

This form is for Undergraduate students only beginning Fall 2021.  If you wish to provide tuition assistance for Graduate student, please complete the online Graduate Scholarship request thru the eContract request system at https://umwa.memphis.edu/econtract/apps/index.php/main
