Each year more than 1,000 high school students demonstrate their knowledge of world languages and cultures at the Annual Language Fair at the University of Memphis. The students come from the Memphis area to compete in a variety of contests, including poetry recitation, writing, costumes, folk dance, drama, music, projects, crafts, and a culture bowl. Competitive events will be conducted in Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Latin, and Spanish. The fair is sponsored by the University's Department of World Languages and Literatures. Read More.
The various language sections in the department regularly offer film festivals to complement the academic programs we offer. Information about the festivals will be published on the film festival website and in the weekly departmental newsletter.
Information on lectures sponsored by the department or of interest to department members will be posted here and included in the weekly departmental newsletter.
