Desk Assistants are an essential link in the security and communication channels of a hall or complex. They receive support from the hall staff to assist in providing communications and assistance for incoming calls, residents and guests. It is important for the desk assistant to know the on-duty hall staff and their locations during the shift. Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Receiving and directing telephone calls
  • Assisting hall residents with key, maintenance and other issues
  • Assisting on-duty hall staff
  • Providing directions and information for residents and guests
  • Completing tasks as assigned by direct supervisor and on-duty staff
  • Reporting emergencies and elevated situations to the on-duty staff and supervisor
  • Maintaining a pleasant attitude and appearance
  • Representing the Department of Residence Life in a professional and competent manner
  • Maintaining a clean and professional work space which may include a customer-facing main information desk
