Army Research Office - Young Investigator Program

  • The objective of the YIP is to attract to Army research outstanding young university faculty members, to support their research, and to encourage their teaching and research careers.
  • Eligibility Requirements:
    • Must be US citizen, US national, or permanent resident alien
    • tenure-track position
    • PhD earned fewer than five years before date of application
  • Award Information and Deadlines
    • $120,000 per year for three years
    • Research Program Areas: outlined in the BAA section II.A.1
    • Deadline: May be submitted at any time through 3/31/2022

Office of Naval Research - Young Investigator Program

  • The objectives of this program are to attract outstanding faculty members of Institutions of Higher Education to the Department of the Navy's Science and Technology (S&T) research program, to support their research, and to encourage their teaching and research careers.
  • Eligibility Requirements
    • first or second full-time tenure-track or tenure-track equivalent academic appointment
    • U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident by 01 October 2019
    • PhD earned after Jan 1, 2012

    • Average Award: $510,000 over 3 years

Department of Energy - Early Career Research Program

  • Eligibility Requirements
    • untenured, tenure track assistant or associate professor at US institution
    • PhD earned in the last 10 years
    • 2019 Funded Office of Science Program Areas:
      • Advanced Scientific Computing Research (ASCR);
      • Biological and Environmental Research (BER);
      • Basic Energy Sciences (BES);
      • Fusion Energy Sciences (FES);
      • High Energy Physics (HEP); and,
      • Nuclear Physics (NP).

NASA - Early Career Faculty

  • The program seeks to tap into (the US University) talent base, challenging early career faculty to examine the theoretical feasibility of new ideas and approaches that are critical to making science, space travel, and exploration more effective, affordable, and sustainable

    • Must be assistant professor at the time award is issued

Air Force Office of Scientific Research - Young Investigator Program

  • The program objective is to foster creative basic research in science and engineering; enhance early career development of outstanding young investigators; and increase opportunities for the young investigator to recognize the Air Force mission and related challenges in science and engineering.
  • Eligibility requirements:
    • U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident by 01 October 2019
    • employed on a full time basis and holds a permanent position.
    • PhD or equivalent earned in the last five years and showing exceptional promise for conducing basic research

DARPA - Young Faculty Award

  • This YFA will provide high-impact funding to elite researchers early in their careers to develop innovative new research directions in the context of enabling transformative DoD capabilities.
  • Eligibility: this program is limited to any current tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professors and to tenured Assistant or Associate Professors within three (3) years of their tenure appointment at a U.S. institution of higher education or equivalent at a U.S. non-profit science and technology research institutions.
