From 1966 to 1967, Viola McFerren serves on the National Community Representative Advisory Council to the National Office of Economic Opportunity. This council advises the Office of Economic Opportunity, which administers the federal government's Anti-Poverty Program. McFerren's work with the Counsel identifies federal and other resources to aid blacks and the poor in Fayette County. Her work with the Council leads to the implementation of the Anti-Poverty Program Head Start, which promotes school readiness for children in Fayette County.
