Undergraduate Student TEP Admissions

Admissions to the College of Educations Office of Teacher Education and Clinical Practice are subject to a tiered system. A prospective student must fall into one of these tiers to be considered.

  • 2.75 GPA or higher and 21 ACT score or higher

OR

  • 3.25 GPA or higher and 17 ACT score or higher

General Education Course Requirements:

  • TALN/HDVL:
    • ENGL1010 and 1020
    • MATH 1420 or equivalent
    • EDPR 2111
  • Secondary Math
    • ENGL 1010 and 1020
    • MATH 1530 or equivalent
    • EDPR 3302

*Must clear TBI Background Check

  • 2.5 GPA or higher

AND one of the following:

  • 18 ACT or higher
  • Pass two parts of the Praxis Core exam and be within five (5) points of passing score on the third exam
  • Have a B or better in:
    • ENGL 1010
    • ENGL 1020
    • General Edcuation Math

General Education Course Requirements

  • TALN/HDVL:
    • ENGL1010 and 1020
    • MATH 1420 or equivalent
    • EDPR 2111
  • Secondary Math
    • ENGL 1010 and 1020
    • MATH 1530 or equivalent
    • EDPR 3302

Applicants under Tier 2 Admissions must also have:

  • Four Disposition EDA completed and submitted by a course instructor
  • Completed self-assessment using the four Disposition EDA
  • C or better in the following program contet area courses:
    • HDVL - ECED 3555
    • TESOL - ENGL 4531
    • SMAT - MATH 1920
    • PETE - PETE 3800
    • TALN - ELED 3242/SPED 2000
    • ART - ART 3411
    • Music - MUSIC 2002

*Must clear TBI Background Check

  • 2.25-2.49 GPA

AND one of the following:

  • 21 ACT score or higher
  • Pass two parts of the Praxis Core exam and be within five (5) points of a passing score on the third exam
  • Have a B or better:
    • ENGL 1010
    • ENGL 1020
    • General Education Math

    • ART - ART 3411
    • Music - MUSIC 2002

All undergraduate students pursuing a teacher license must be admitted to the Teacher Education Program (TEP) in order to move forward to restricted courses. Not being admitted to TEP at the appropriate time could result in delaying graduation and/or not meeting certification requirements. To be admitted into TEP, an undergraduate candidate must: 

  • submit the Undergraduate TEP application>
  • have a cleared TBI background check on file in the Office of Teacher Education
  • Note: Candidates who do not meet all of the above requirements should discuss alternate admission criteria with their advisor.

Residency II Requirement

Students must pass all required Praxis content exams before beginning Residency II.
