Senior Projects Information
Pre Class Registration (TECH 4943 - Senior Project Planning Seminar)

- Within one or both of your Fields Of Study
- Meet the General Guidelines for a Senior Project and the appropriate Field of Study Guidelines:
Note: Receiving a permit into the class does not mean your project idea has been approved, but that your have put in enough thought about your project to be permitted into the class.
TECH 4943 - Senior Project Planning Seminar
At the start of the semester your will need to produce and submit a Project Proposal Memo (updated 9/2/22) and a completed Project Approval Form (some instructors will do approvals via an on-line system....check with your instructor).
You are expected to keep a Engineering Notebook for the duration of the project. Your notebook will be checked periodically. See Engineering Notebooks Q&A for more information (including expected content).
Senior Core Test
This test will cover material from courses in the Core Engineering Technology requirements (TECH 1010, 1521, 1211, 1711, 1811, 2821, 2822, 3044, 3440, 4462, 4381). We will have a review session prior to the test since it may have been some time since the freshman courses. It is your responsibility to review coursework from each of the listed class. You must pass the test with a minimum of 60% to pass the class. You will be permitted to retest if necessary.
This will be a formal presentation to your classmates, student body and faculty and should be a brief and concise outline of your project and the planned implementation.
This is a comprehensive written proposal, not a memo. The final project will be an extensive document. It will form the basis for your work on the project itself, define the scope of your project, and define the measures of success that will be used in evaluating your final project in TECH 4945. Download the Project Proposal Guide and Project Proposal Template for more information.
TECH 4945 Senior Project
You are expected to continue making entries in your Engineering Notebook for the duration of the project. Your notebook will be checked periodically. See Engineering Notebooks Q&A for more information (including expected content).
Change Request Form
In industry, if any party (customer or contractor) wishes to change a project in a significant way, the other party must agree to that change. This is usually handled via a Change Request Form. If you project is going to deviate from the project proposal submitted in TECH4943, you must submit a change request memo to you advisor, instructor, and FOS lead for approval of the change. If you are in doubt whether a change is significant enough to require this, consult the course instructor.
Filed of Study Tests
You will be tested over coursework in each of your fields of study. This test is mandatory; failure to take the tests or failure to pass the tests will will result in automatic failure of the course. You will be permitted to retest if necessary.
You will produce a project poster (Template) and participate in a poster presentation for your fellow students and faculty. Be prepared to discuss your project and answer questions during the session.
This will be a FORMAL presentation to your classmates, student body and faculty and should be a brief and concise outline of the project implementation and lessons learned during its execution.
