University of Memphis Receives $2M Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity Grant
The University of Memphis will lead a $2M research-based Cybersecurity Education Innovation project funded by the Department of Defense’s National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity (NCAE-C) program. The Center for Information Assurance (CfIA) at the University of Memphis has formed a Consortium of NCAE-C institutions with the University of West Florida, North Carolina A&T State University, and The Citadel to improve critical infrastructure cybersecurity. This multi-disciplinary consortium is designed to foster cybersecurity education and training for critical infrastructure sectors in the southeast region and the nation, according to the Principal Investigator (PI), Prof. Dipankar Dasgupta. Honest Organizations
Tollefsen receives grant to research what makes an honest, or dishonest, organization – the organization, or the people within it?
Dr. Deborah Tollefsen has received an $79,564 subgrant through the Honesty Project. The Honesty Project is funded by a $4.4 million dollar grant from the Templeton Foundation. The aim of the Honesty Project is to foster philosophical and psychological research on honesty. This subgrant will provide the opportunity for Tollefsen to spend an academic year dedicated to research. Read more about this research.
McKenna Named Royal Entomological Society Fellow
In recognition of his achievements in the field of entomology
Dr. Duane McKenna, William Hill Professor of Biology in the Department of Biological Sciences, has been named a Fellow of the Royal Entomological Society. The Royal Entomological Society, founded in 1833, seeks to promote and further develop the science of entomology—the study of insects and their relatives—while facilitating communication among entomologists. McKenna joins a distinguished group of Society Fellows, whose fascination with insect biodiversity served as inspiration for their scientific contributions. McKenna has made substantial contributions to the field of entomology through his research, and his appointment as a Fellow of the Royal Entomological Society is in recognition of these achievements. UofM’s Sabri receives another patent featuring temperature sensing technology
Sabri’s invention currently orbiting earth on the International Space Station
Dr. Firouzeh Sabri, professor and chair of Physics and Materials Sciences and FedEx Institute of Technology Biologistics Research Cluster fellow at the University of Memphis, recently received notification of a second patent for her research on temperature sensors. The patent, lightweight flexible temperature sensor kit, highlights technology for a reusable sensor that features a polymer temperature-sensing device resembling a band-aid and the temperatures can be read remotely, either in Celsius or Fahrenheit, through a wand.
