Proposal Editing Program – English Language Silver or Gold Services

Purpose:

To increase external grant funding by providing ALL interested faculty with access to discounted Nature/Springer English Language editing services and by providing funding support for pre-tenure faculty (Asst Professors) to access these services for their funding applications. Silver or Gold Language Editing corrects language errors, removing English as an obstacle. It can be used for all document types in all disciplines.

·       Silver corrects errors in spelling, grammar, and punctuation, rephrases sentences that sound unnatural or confusing, and makes your style sound more professional.

·       Gold provides additional edits and makes further improvements to the style and phrasing. It also provides a personalized summary of the editing to develop your writing skills for the future.

How to Access:

ALL University investigators may access our dedicated microsite and purchase these services at a 10% discount. Prices are determined by the word count of the document and the requested turnaround time. For an estimate based on word count and turnaround time, visit this link.

Eligibility for Junior Faculty Support:

Funding support to offset editing costs may be requested for any proposal to a major federal agency (NIH, NSF, NEH, DOE, USDA, etc.) or Foundation that is submitted by a University of Memphis junior faculty member as Principal Investigator with a total budget (direct plus indirect costs) of at least $150,000. Funding will be limited to $1,000/fiscal year per junior faculty member.

How to Apply for Junior Faculty Support:

·       Junior Faculty PI visits the UofM Nature/Springer Editing microsite at this link and orders desired services. The faculty PI must make arrangements to pay for these services up front at the University’s discounted rate (10% off list price discount).

·       Upon documented submission of the edited proposal to the federal agency (Cayuse record), the Junior Faculty PI forwards the receipt for paid editing services to researchdev@memphis.edu with a copy of the market up proposal and information regarding the account (FOAP) into which awarded funds should be deposited.

·       Review and approval of the request will be completed within 10 working days, and approved funds will be transferred to the provided FOAP.

If funding becomes limited, preference will be given to junior faculty making proposals to early career programs (e.g. NSF Career, NASA, DOD-YIP, NIH-K, etc.), or who have received encouraging review comments on a previously submitted proposal, and/or who have yet to receive their first external funding award in year 5 of their pre-tenure period.
